TIP readies trailer fleet ahead of braking system assessment guideline changes

TIP has been busy equipping around 20,000 trailers with its electronic braking performance monitoring system (EBPMS), BrakePlus, over the last couple of years to ensure its fleet is ready for changes to the guidelines around braking system assessment, effective this April. The programme of fitment has, however, ramped up significantly of late as the demand for EBPMS has increased in-line with heightened awareness of the upcoming changes.

TIP’s customers with BrakePlus-equipped trailers are benefitting from cost-efficiency savings by not having to perform multiple roller brake tests throughout the year, from increased safety of their trailers through continuous monitoring of braking performance and from continued ‘compliance’ following the introduction of the new guidelines.

The new guidelines are set out in the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) publication, a ‘Guide to maintaining roadworthiness’, which come into effect in April and stipulate that trailers must either undergo at least four laden roller brake tests a year or utilise an EBPMS in order to stay compliant.

TIP plans to have EBPMS fitted to much more of its fleet of trailers in addition to fitting the technology to many others that it manages on behalf of its customers.
